The Photograph

TP tells the story of a woman who is obsessed with a famous model/actress and will do anything to become her. When she finds an ancient book at the local library, it grants her wish but only after she summons up and confronts the Prince of Darkness!

TP was based on a short story that James' mother wrote when she was younger. James remembers, "My mother used to tell me this story when I was younger and I always remember thinking about it visually, I could always visualize the encounter she (Linda) has with the Devil, the long, dark tunnelways, all of it. At one point back in Ireland, around 1990, two friends and I wrote a screenplay and attempted to film it but it didn't pan out so we shelved it. I knew at some point I would make it and after NEMESIS I was ready to give it another go."

Filming started in July of 2001 and was shot at different locations throughout North Texas, including Richardson, Caddo Mills, Dallas and Commerce. One location in particular, the old library, came at a time when cast and crew were getting very antsy about finishing the film. James continues. " We needed one more location in order to finish the film and that was a library. We had pretty much shot everything else and a few months had gone past without me finding a library that we could shoot at. Everybody, especially me, wanted to get the film finished as some of the actors had other projects lined up afterwards.

I had written the script explaining that the old library had underground tunnels and passageways. The actual thought that we'd find a place like that was very unlikely. I couldn't find any library that would let us film on their premises until Priscilla Donovan, the person in charge at the Commerce Public Library, had read an article on me and the film in a local newspaper. I received a call from her asking if I wanted to come and check out the building. I did, and it had underground passageways and tunnels, just like I had written!"

TP premiered at the Magnolia Theatre in Dallas in September of 2003. It was a midnight screening and about 240 people turned up. TP had a great reception and before the film started, James screened a small preview of his next film: DIVINE SOULS!
