Nemesis

NEMESIS tells the story of Jason, a social worker, who helps get kids off the streets and start new lives for themselves. His befriends a young prostitute and junkie named Polly, and helps her start a new life but when she disappears, all evidence leads Jason to one person. A cop. With a dark secret.

NEMESIS was based on the Irish stageplay, 'THE CONSEQUENCE OF POLLY' by Kevin Johnson. James had appeared in another adaptation of the play, a film titled SHADOW SILENCE, back in Ireland in 1994. For that film, he played the villain, Detective O'Brien, who has to do with the disappearance of Cathy (In NEMESIS, Cathy's name was changed back to the original name, Polly). James felt that SS didn't capture the essence of the play and he remade the film as NEMESIS. This time though, he adapted the story into his own screenplay and also produced and directed it, playing a supporting character named Rick.

"It felt weird, in a way. Here I was making a new film but I had already been in a film that had basically told the same story. From the very beginning when I first read the stageplay, I started to form my own adaptation of the play in my mind and knew that at some point down the road, I'd make the film my own way. SHADOW SILENCE was a great experience for me and I worked with some very talented people but the finished product didn't turn out the way I thought it should have, that's why I remade it as NEMESIS".

Shooting started in July of 1998 over the period of one year. Filming took place in Dallas, Plano, Frisco, Greenville and Caddo Mills. NEMESIS premiered in July of 2000 at the historic Lakewood Theatre in Dallas. 300 people turned up for the premiere and the local news station WB-33 also turned up and interviewed James about the film. James was excited to finish up NEMESIS so he could start work on his next film, THE PHOTOGRAPH, in which he would work with three actors who had appeared in NEMESIS, Marc, Jim and Gidget.
